Community Service Overview
The Kodiak Cave offers opportunities for students to get involved in their communities both on and off campus through meaningful volunteer work. When students participate in volunteer work, it can help them feel more connected to their environment, make lasting new friendships, and develop a greater sense of empathy for the world around them. This program allows students to have a space on campus where they can learn about current volunteer opportunities around their community; connect with a staff member about volunteer work that would best suit their interests and availability; and participate in quarterly on-campus service events and socials.
Two Ways to Volunteer Through the Kodiak Cave
- Participate in on-campus service events hosted by the Kodiak Cave throughout the year.
- Become a formal part of the program with a volunteer position in your community. To participate, complete the Volunteer Interest Form and schedule an Orientation Meeting.
Start Volunteering in Your Community
To get started with your volunteer work, you’ll meet with the Kodiak Cave Program Specialist to talk about what opportunities might be a good fit for you. At this meeting, you will learn about available volunteer roles in the community and work with the Program Specialist to determine how community service can fit into your time here at Cascadia. While this meeting will review the community partnerships we currently have, please know that the Kodiak Cave is always open to new ideas and we would love to hear about new and different organizations our students want to work with.
To schedule an orientation meeting, please complete the Volunteer Interest Form. Once you submit your form, you will receive an email to schedule an Orientation Meeting. Your Orientation Meeting should be scheduled within 2 weeks of completing the interest form.
- Students formally participating the Kodiak Cave’s Community Service Program are responsible for keeping the Cave up to date on their volunteer work by reporting hours served once per month and submitting quarterly update forms.

- Enhance your applications to transfer schools and jobs
- Inappropriate behavior such as profanity, verbal abuse of staff, or any other disruptive behavior is prohibited. Any such behavior may result in the suspension or termination of privileges with any Kodiak Cave services or programs.
- Through this program, students may commit to a volunteer position and the organization(s) will be counting on them to fulfill responsibilities during volunteer hours.
- Students should display timeliness, a positive attitude, and hard work with both the Kodiak Cave and any on or off campus organizations they volunteer with.
