Community Service Overview
Beginning in Fall 2024, the Kodiak Cave offers opportunities for students to get involved in their communities on and off campus. When students participate in volunteer work throughout their community, it can help them feel more connected to their environment, make lasting new friendships, and develop a greater sense of empathy for the world around them. This program allows students to have a space on campus where they can learn about current volunteer opportunities around their community; connect with a staff member about volunteer work that would best suit their interests and availability; and participate in quarterly on-campus service events.
Two Ways to Volunteer Through the Kodiak Cave
- Participate in on-campus service events hosted by the Kodiak Cave throughout the year.
- Sign the Kodiak Commitment and become a part of the program with a volunteer position in your community. To participate, schedule an Orientation Meeting by completing the Volunteer Interest Form.
Start Volunteering in Your Community
To get started with your volunteer work, you’ll meet with the Kodiak Cave Program Specialist to talk about what opportunities might be a good fit for you. At this meeting, you will read and sign the Kodiak Commitment paperwork, which is required once per school year. While this meeting will review the community partnerships we currently have, please know that the Kodiak Cave is always open to new ideas and we would love to hear about new and different organizations our students want to work with.
To schedule an orientation meeting, please complete the Volunteer Interest Form. Once you submit your form, you will receive an email to schedule an Orientation Meeting.
The Kodiak Commitment is a list of our Community Service guidelines and expectations. Volunteers will be responsible for filling out this form once per academic year upon the beginning of their first Community Service opportunity. Volunteers will have the chance to ask questions and gain clarification of the Commitment during their Orientation Meeting with the Kodiak Cave Program Specialist.
Kodiak Commitment
- I understand that I am responsible for communicating my volunteer hours to the Kodiak Cave on a regular basis.
- I understand that I may receive a feedback form throughout the process of my service work and it is my responsibility to fill it out when received.
- I understand that photos may be taken and used with ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ and/or Kodiak Cave marketing intentions. You can opt in or out of this.
- I understand that my service location may ask me to sign additional waivers, provide additional information, and/or require me to complete onsite training.
- I understand inappropriate behavior such as profanity, verbal abuse of staff, or any other disruptive behavior is prohibited. Any such behavior may result in the suspension or termination of my privileges with any Kodiak Cave services or programs.
- I understand that if I do not report my service hours and complete the feedback form about my experience, I may be ineligible for service awards and acknowledgements from the Kodiak Cave.
- I understand that I am a representative of the Kodiak Cave and of ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ. This means that I will display respect, integrity, and collaboration in all I do to embody the Cascadia culture.
- I understand that I am committing to a volunteer position and the organization I will be working with is counting on me to fulfill my responsibilities during my volunteer hours.
- I am committing to displaying timeliness, a positive attitude, and hard work in order to be successful in my position.
Volunteering in your community gives Cascadia students a way to get involved outside of the classroom or typical campus events. Aside from gaining valuable experiences and creating relationships that will last beyond your college career, students involved in the Kodiak Cave’s Community Service program will be eligible to receive awards for their service hours. These awards include certificates of achievement for hours served, the potential to be highlighted in campus marketing for their service, and keepsakes for milestone service hour achievements.

Active Community Partnerships
Below you’ll find our list of active community partnerships. These are organizations that the Kodiak Cave works with directly, meaning we can provide students with up to date information on what that location is looking for in a volunteer, and how to become a volunteer there. If you don’t see an organization you’re interested in working with, that’s okay! The Kodiak Cave can help you find volunteer work in the area that fits within your schedule and goals. Complete a Volunteer Interest Form to talk more and schedule an Orientation Meeting.
